The Mission
Lightbox Studio is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation dedicated to the research, practice, and production of new and evolving art forms, including, but not limited to, performance, writing, visual arts, and installation. The journey began with, and remains, a desire to examine work honestly and simply, using a form most suitable to a particular aesthetic, text or action. Lightbox Studio's approaches remain dynamic, as the company responds to new artistic, social, and aesthetic needs. Lightbox Studio was formed for work to exist, and for artists to create Lightbox Studio is physical, it is musical, it is dance, theatre, color, noise, and it is spectacle. Lightbox creates new experimental performance works, large-scale visual installations and theatrical events, and provides studio and performance space for visiting artists from around the world. Above all else, the studio wishes to provide artists with the tools to work, where the focus can remain on trusting the inherent value of the artwork itself. This trust in the art allows the studio to facilitate complex events and cross-pollinate many disciplines during development and presentation. The Lightbox Studio process is that there is no one single process There is no single definitive approach to Lightbox Studios projects. While from a marketing standpoint it is often advantageous for an arts organization to identify with a single process that is applied to a wide variety of pieces, Lightboxs artists have found it much more rewarding to respond with a unique approach for each particular piece. The process may call for two days of work, or it may call for two years. If in the end the art is served, the path taken makes little difference. Lightbox relies heavily on input from multiple artists during the development of a piece, and numerous perspective minders are intentionally introduced throughout. With this constant questioning of the journey, the risk for failure increases, but so does the potential for profound creative success. The wonderfully varied aesthetics of Lightbox Studios artists ensures that the work remains in the realm of questions, and avoids becoming solely self-referent |
